The Dodge Challenger, like many other vehicles, monitors its own behavior and provides an “error” or “fault” code when things go wrong in order to help diagnose the problem. Since computers are only as good as the people programming them, the computer might not see problems which do exist, or it might indicate a problem which does not exist, or it might indicate a problem which is, in fact, being caused by some other system component. The computer checks the data from the various sensors and components connected to it against other sensors and components and when the data clashes or exceeds its minimum or maximum threshold limit, an error or fault code is generated. For example, if data coming from the mass airflow sensor is not receiving data that it expects, given such factors as throttle position, speed of the vehicle or RPMs of the engine, etc., then the computer will throw a fault code and, in some cases, cause an indicator lamp on the instrument panel to light up.
